What is Genrich Portfolios?

Genrich Portfolios is a boutique art portfolio consulting practice that helps students develop strong, intentional portfolios for competitive art and design school applications. We focus on curation, sequencing, storytelling, and strategic alignment — never creating or altering student work.

Who is Nadine Genrich?

Nadine Genrich is a RISD-trained designer, New York–based textile and surface designer, illustrator, and creative director with decades of experience across fashion, home, and product design.

As both a former art school applicant and a practicing design professional, Nadine understands the admissions process from multiple vantage points. She brings academic insight, industry perspective, and contemporary awareness to students navigating today’s art and design landscape.

⸻

Why is Nadine unique as a portfolio consultant?

Nadine’s perspective combines three distinct strengths:

Insider understanding. As a RISD alum and long-time industry professional, she understands both what art schools expect and what the creative industries demand.

Strategic curation — not creation. She does not create or alter student work. Her guidance focuses on strengthening concepts, refining direction, and shaping a cohesive portfolio narrative.

Current industry relevance. Because she remains active in the design world, her advice reflects what is current, relevant, and resonant — not outdated trends or generic portfolio formulas.

Her approach balances thoughtful mentorship with strategic clarity, helping students present their work authentically and competitively.

Who is this for?

We work with:

• High school students applying to BFA or BA programs

• Transfer students refining or rebuilding their portfolios

• Gap year students preparing to reapply

• Students applying to competitive art and design schools

Our services are best suited for students who want professional-level direction and a clear strategy.

⸻

What schools do you specialize in?

We guide students applying to leading art and design programs, including RISD, Parsons, Pratt, SCAD, SVA, Cooper Union, FIT, and other competitive BFA and BA programs.

Each school has distinct expectations. We help students understand and align with those nuances.

⸻

How is this different from an art class?

This is not a technique-based art class.

We focus on strategic portfolio development — shaping how work is curated, sequenced, and presented. We help students strengthen concepts, refine cohesion, and build a portfolio narrative that feels intentional and mature.

⸻

Do you create the work for the student?

No.

All work must be created by the student. We provide critique, direction, and strategic feedback — but the ideas and execution remain entirely the student’s.

⸻

How early should a student start?

Ideally:

• Sophomore or junior year for competitive BFA programs

• At least 5–8 months before application deadlines

However, we also work with students on tighter timelines depending on their goals and current portfolio strength.

⸻

How many sessions will I need?

The right number of sessions depends on three factors:

• The strength and depth of your current portfolio

• The competitiveness of your target schools

• Your application timeline

Some students benefit from a focused foundation review to gain clarity and direction. Others choose ongoing coaching across the full application season to strategically develop and refine their work.

During the initial consultation, we recommend the level of support that best fits your goals — no more, no less.

⸻

Are sessions virtual or in-person?

Whenever possible, sessions are conducted in person to provide the most immersive experience. For students outside the region, we offer fully supported virtual sessions via Zoom.

⸻

What results can students expect?

Students leave with:

• Clear portfolio direction

• Stronger conceptual development

• Cohesive presentation

• Strategic alignment with school expectations

• Confidence in their submissions

Our goal is not just acceptance — it is helping students present work that feels intentional, thoughtful, and distinctive.

⸻

Do you guarantee admission?

No consultant can ethically guarantee admission.

What we guarantee is honest, expert guidance and thoughtful critique designed to elevate the strength and clarity of your portfolio.

⸻

Do you help with essays or other application requirements?

No, Genrich Portfolios focuses exclusively on the portfolio and the visual aspects of the application.

However, most schools will also require essays. If you are in need of essay guidance, I have recommended resources that I’m happy to share.

⸻

How do we get started?

Let’s begin with an intake conversation to review goals, timeline, and current work. From there, we’ll recommend the right level of support and outline thoughtful next steps.

This is a low-pressure, exploratory conversation — an opportunity to get excited about the possibilities ahead. We look forward to speaking with you and your student.

Every portfolio journey begins with a conversation. Have a question or want to see if this is the right fit?

We’d love to connect.
